You dirty old man.
He knew those eyes all too well - bah, a gentleman indeed. Looking at a girl of his sibling's status that way? Blasphemy, he wouldn't have it.
Host or not, Len would be none too kind in intervening on the 'parade'; as evidenced by the way he began to slide through the crowd, towards a familiar blonde head and what he supposed could now be considered as the enemy.
"Rin, there you are." He comes out of seemingly nowhere, all smiles and sparkles as he rests a hand on his sister's waist, tugging her slightly towards him; while his attention remains on the taller, rather plain-looking tutor whom she'd been speaking to.
"I see you've met my sister.. but I'm afraid we haven't been introduced, have we?" He starts up before either of them can say a word, still with the brightest of grins - despite his tight, taut tone.
"Earl Len Kagamine; a pleasure, I'm sure." Your ira is showing.
"And you are..?"

Earl? An earl indeed.
"A pleasure to meet you, Earl Kagamine," Mr. Hiyama responded curtly, not at all missing the very clear irritation of his blond guest. "I myself am Kiyoteru Hiyama. What brings you to America, and to a humble scholar's party, Sir Earl?" The sarcasm was unmistakable. Mr. Hiyama did not take very kindly to the interruption, and he felt slightly ruffled to have such a young man, clearly only a teenager, speaking to him so disrespectfully.

Oh, so that's what you want to play?
"I was interested in the kind of scholar that could be so noticeable that he could be brought to the attention of my family," He replied coolly, tilting his head upward as he continued to speak, "I'm not sure if I should be disappointed or not."
With the blatant insult in tow, he continued without a moment to spare, lest he give his opponent a moment to interject with more of his plain ignorance. Honestly, Len ought to have him locked up for taking such a tone with someone of higher standing.
Hmph.
"I trust you do have some entertainment planned, Mister Hiyama? I'm rather looking forward to it; After attending a good many of these sorts of .. functions, they do tend to end up somewhat bland, wouldn't you say?" A feigned expression of surprise.
"Oh, terribly sorry. I don't suppose you'd share the feeling as a scholar, would you?"

Mr. Hiyama's lips curved into an amused smile. The boy wasn't just feisty, but very rude as well. He remained polite however, being the bigger man, both figuratively and literally.
"I'm not sure if our American entertainment would be fitting to an Earl from England, especially from one such as me," he replied coolly, as if he didn't find the Earl to be incredibly haughty and self-centered. "If you would perhaps offer the English way of play, we can arrange a method to keep your needs and attentions satisfied."
The man's eyes drifted to Miss Kagamine for a small moment before he decided that asking her to accompany him to dance the fast-paced waltz, a tune he found to be his favorite, would not be an apt idea now that this Earl seemed to be guarding his sister very jealously.

Rin was pleasantly surprised with the host’s manners; he was a perfect gentleman! Rin smiled behind her fan. She lowered it slightly, revealing a dainty and perfectly crafted smile.
"The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Hiyama, and let me welcome you to the neighborhood" She said, responding in kind to his bow with a perfect curtsy of her own.
"If there is anything you need help with in settling down, please, don't hesitate to ask the Kagamine household." Rin supplied, following through with formalities. Once that had been taking care of, she relaxed a bit, glad she had remembered all of her lessons to the T.
"So, Mr. Hiyama, may I ask what brought you here? Are you perhaps a questing knight? Or, mayhaps a long lost son returning to his father's land, rich from his wanderings? Or perhaps something more exciting?" Rin asked, reciting some popular novel tropes, swaying forward slightly in excitement. He didn't quite seem like a knight, but, then again, wasn't that often the case?
While she was waiting for his response, she was surprised to hear Len’s voice. She turned, secretly relishing the way her dress swished around her ankles, and smiled at her brother.
“Len!” she called out, happily and excited, and then confusion flickered across her features as he pulled her, stumbling, closer to his side. She looked down at his hand on her waist and then to his face. She sensed something had changed in the air, and she stood blinking as her gaze switched from the two males as she followed their curt exchanges, insults veiled by social etiquette.
Rin scowled, letting etiquette temporarily slip. She shook Len’s hand off as she turned on her brother. “Len, I do believe you owe our host an apology. As well as me. You ignore me for most of the party, and only come by to intervene and play the role of brother and Earl. Thank you very much but I can take care of myself. I was simply speaking to our host, which is considered by most to be polite and in accordance with etiquette. And, Mr. Hiyama, I do not wish to speak ill of you at your own function, but I do believe that you should tread a bit careful for fear of insulting me as well” She said, turning to Kiyoteru.
She stood, hands on her hips, surveying the two gentlemen, before she snapped her fan open and fanned herself. “Now, I’m getting bored, and one of you two had better be considering asking me to dance before I go and find some servant to dance with for fear of finding no one that can live up to your expectations, brother” Rin said, glaring at Len. Her perfect evening of love, romance and dancing was teetering on catastrophe.
((I hope this is okay... ^^; It was kind of hard to interrupt the argument...haha! ))

"Ah--" At the way his sister turns on him, the blonde's cool facade breaks; and he shows the evident and clear effect her reprimanding has on him. However, he does not give a clear apology, instead choosing to merely turn his gaze again to the certainly struck tutor, and offer a tight, unwilling nod.
"It would appear that we have both gotten off on the wrong foot.. perhaps we ought to start clean, hm?" He readjusts the collar of his shirt, offering Kiyoteru his hand. A notion of peace - mostly. He'd be sure to continue keeping his eye on the tutor despite what Rin had said.
At the mention of a dance, he acts first, swiftly stepping more or less in front of the taller man to take the first exchange. He smiles; a happy, kind smile, just for her, the one he knows his sister adores; and deciding to add to the charm, he speaks, his head dipping in a respectful bow as he holds out his hand for her to take.
"Of course. Would you be so kind as do me the honor?"

Mr. Hiyama started in surprise at Ms. Kagamine's lecture, before his features transformed into a truly amused smile.
"My," he said, half to himself. "It appears the women of England are quite bold. Or perhaps it may have to do with your position?"
Before Ms. Kagamine could put in another word, he waved his hand coolly and apologized quite sincerely; he had not meant to forget himself at Mr. Kagamine's interruption.
The aforementioned young man apologized for his earlier rudeness and the scholar molded his face into one of an unreadable emotion as he shook the offered hand.
"Of course," he replied in the most amiable tone, then raised an eyebrow as Mr. Kagamine's attentions were immediately drawn to his sister's mention of dancing, before one or the other man could even give a proper apology. With a mental shrug, Mr. Hiyama gave a short bow.
"If you may promise me the dance after your brother's, I would have no greater honor."

Rin frowned slightly at Len’s excuse of an apology. Although she certainly wasn’t expecting the two gentlemen to become friends in the span of 2 minutes, she was hoping that they would at least apologize. She gave a small sigh, and decided she would have to settle for Len offering to start over. Although, Mr. Hiyama’s comment rubbed her the wrong way, and it took all of her self-control not to stick her tongue out at the tutor. But that would have added to her embarrassment.
Rin noted Len’s jumping to dance first, and she resisted quirking one of her eyebrows at him. And, how could she stay made at him when, in the next minute, he smiled at her. Smile was an understatement; Len practically glowed at her. Raising her open fan to cover her face, Rin turned her head to the side, aware she was blushing. She couldn’t help it! She loved that smile of his the most. When he genuinely seemed to enjoy her company and wanted to please her.
“It would be my pleasure, brother” Rin managed to squeak, extending her hand to delicately place it in Len’s outstretched hand. She stowed her fan away, together with her bag, on a chair, and placed her other hand, the left, on her brother’s shoulder.
“My dance card is free, so I will gladly take up your offer Mr. Hiyama. If you don’t mind dancing with me…” Rin smiled over Len’s shoulder at Hiyama, feeling almost giddy that she would finally begin dancing. And then, she was all but whisked away to dance by Len. Or at least, that’s how it felt to the young girl.
haha! Niisan len is probably one of my faves too…XD
